Most Hallowed Ground

Saturday, October 19, we leave South Boston, Virginia, to drive back to DC. It is a four hour drive plus 45 minutes for lunch, but driving through Washington, finding a filling station...only a few blocks out of our way...returning the rental car and cabbing to our hotel, it was 4:30 whenwe got to our room. The tour started at 5:30, so we were in good shape. Met some very nice people at the cocktail welcome party, several from California, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and then left at 8:15 for an evenong tour pf the coty. We have seen all of these memorials, but at night they are spectacular.

The Washington Monument is being repaired from an earthquake, but still very striking at night!

We first walk around the World War II Memorial.

Then we walk over to the Korean War Memorial.

Next we saw thw Lincoln Memorial. We took the elevator up to the platform and walked down the steps.

The last one we walked through was the Vietnam Memorial. The Wall with all of the names is very sobering, but not easily photographed at night. There is a statue of three soldiers

Back to our coach and back to the hotel by 10:30. Tomorrow ready to go at 8! It will be a short night!
